PASIGHAT, Aug 11: East Siang District was brought under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) on Thursday. Thirty beneficiaries were given free LPG connections comprising 14.2 kg cylinder, regulator, woven (chulla), hosepipe, consumer gas card etc by the East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tamiyo Tatak in a function held today organized by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) with the help of District Civil Supply department and local dealer M/S Sango Gas Agency, Pasighat.

Lauding the effort, DC Tatak expressed hope that it would address the sufferings of poor women in managing kitchen and household. “It is a boon for our rural masses where majority of the households are dependent on firewood and kerosene stove etc for cooking purposes. It will improve the health condition of our poor women and reduce drudgery of collecting firewood”, opined the DC.

Expressing gratitude to PM Modi and Chief Minister Pema Khandu for launching the people-oriented scheme PMUY, Tatak said this would benefit East Siang immensely and informed the IOC sales officer Sayed MM Hussain that only three hundred women belonging to ‘Below Poverty Line’ (BPL) have been selected in the district based on Social Economic Caste Census, 2011 data but actual figures of BPL would more than that.

The authority must conduct massive survey and prepare fresh list beneficiaries and distribute LPG connections in a transparent and judicious manner so that no eligible beneficiary is left, he further added.
