ITANAGAR, May 4:The defeatist spirit of North-East region inherited since independence has been removed by present BJP-led central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said state BJP general secretary Jarpum Gamlin and lawmaker Gabriel Denwang Wangsu.
Their response came during a discussion on “four-year achievements of Modi Govt” in DDK Itanagar here today when senior journalist Pradeep Kumar as anchor set the momentum for discussion posing question: What are achievements of mahanayak prime minister Narendra Modi-led BJP Govt for Bharat, globally known as Mahadesh (sub-continent), not a desh (country)?
Geographically delinked, NE has been suffering from isolation syndrome because of total negligence by successive central Govts, but Modi became first PM to visit NE region 19 times while every union minister has been visiting the region once every month at the direction of the PM that led to removal of this isolation syndrome, Gamlin added.
Multi-pronged war against corruption that had made inroads into every section of the system has been halted at the initiative of the PM with cautioning “beware of Modi Govt” don’t get caught for corrupt practice unawares”, Wangsu said, adding that services and fruits of development are percolating down to the beneficiaries and are visible due to non-corrupt practice.
Gamlin supplemented that linking Aadhaar cards and bank accounts through PM Jan Dhan Yojana for direct benefit transfer ended the role of middlemen or brokers to check corruption. That could be possible through vast internet and mobile connection, he pointed out.
When pointed out that the GoI should give more thrust to tele and internet connectivity in this hilly state, Gamlin admitted but said that Union MoS Minister (Communication & IT) Manoj Sinha, who was here recently, is well aware of the toughness in executing the ongoing projects and taking step accordingly.
When asked as to how the benefits are reaching the targeted group in grassroots level as the Govt channel is considered the longest in the world, Wangsu said that the poor tribal women of his Kanubari assembly constituency in remote hilly Longding district bordering Myanmar after getting LPG connections under PM’s Ujjala Yojna are terming it a dream come true. For, they carrying their children on piggyback used to go to the forest to fetch firewood daily but now are a happy lot, he disclosed.
The electricity connection under RGGVKY was given only in papers with only poles standing in few places without supply, but Deendayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana and PM Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana have served as boon for rural area and “We are feeling the difference after a long gap,” Wangsu reasoned.
Gamlin pitched in to add that Modi Govt after launching 106 welfare projects and schemes since 2014 acted to ensure delivery to the needy and poor unlike in the past and outcome of many projects would be visible by 2022, he said with conviction.
Explaining benefits of all projects, he said, adding infrastructure, connectivity, health sectors, to name a few, received priority attention of the GoI. Expansion of railway link up to Tawang is in process, fixed wing aircraft to soon link Pasighat and Tezu with Kolkata under UDAAN scheme while Chief Minister Pema Khandu has put his weight to make Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Science functional soon while he facilitated geo-tagging of Dambuk orange to go global.
IT connectivity, skill development, Stand up India, Start up India have been giving new thrust to rural development, Gamlin said, adding that comparing 48-year Congress rule and 48-month BJP rule would draw the right inference.
The anchor concluded with a question for the listeners to ponder - It is for the people across India to decide now “if seeing is believing” and “availing benefits is making them beneficiaries or not?”
