PASIGHAT, Jul 2:  A massive plantation drive marking the 68th Vanamahotsava Week was held at Government Secondary School, Kiyit under Mebo Sub-Division here on Saturday by the school authorities in collaboration with Mebo Forest Range under Pasighat Forest Division which saw huge participation.

Divisional Forest Officer, Pasighat Forest Division, Tabang Jamoh has imposed fine of Rs. 2,500 on offenders who wilfully destroy the planted saplings. He also urged the DDSE, Pasighat to issue an instruction to all schools of the area to plant at least 10 trees a year, saplings of which will be provided by the forest department.

DDSE J. Yirang laid emphasis on giving importance on other co-curricular activities as well besides usual classroom teaching. Yirang also urged the teaching community to focus on giving quality education to the students so that government schools regain its lost glory.

 

At BOMDILA,

The week long Vanamahotsava with the theme ‘Each one plant one’ began Saturday morning at district headquarters Bomdila.

To commemorate the 68th Vanamahotsava and the birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a plantation drive was carried out at the entry point of Bomdila, identified as a slide prone area.

Various activities have been charted for the week long celebration including planting of seedlings in and around the respective schools by the school children, drawing and essay writing competitions for school going children, plantations in the erosion prone areas as identified by the district administration, plantations in and around the monasteries and awareness campaigns in villages followed by plantations.

Similar activities would be carried out in the ranges situated at Nafra, Dirang and Khuppi in the district by the concerned Range Forest Officers.
