Emchi, Feb 21: A total of 24,475 households in rural Papum Pare have been connected with Functional Household Tap Connections ( FHTC) under Jal Jeevan Mission thus achieving 100 percent saturation of the scheme. The achievement was celebrated at a function organised by the PHED,Yupia Division at Tana Hari Fish Farm at Emchi on Wednesday.
During the program the best performing GPCs,  best performing women in handling the Field Test Kits and Best performing field staff were awarded with certificates and mementos on the occasion. 
Joining the celebration 15 Sagalee MLA, Nabam Tuki called for concerted efforts from all the stakeholders to protect water source catchment areas by discouraging jhum cultivation and deforestation. Commending the EB -Project Nature under Soi village in Leparada District,Tuki added that  such initiatives should be incentivized and emulated across the state.
He further suggested assigning the responsibilities for the upkeep of the village assets under PHED, RWD etc to the PRIs as they with in depth knowledge of the problems at grassroots will be in a better position to upkeep the assets.
Secretary PHED AK Singh assured to “notify the drinking water source-watershed areas “ if the requisite paper works are submitted to him” and further requested the DC Papum Pare Jiken Bomjen to complete necessary formalities in consultation with the PRI members and public.
Mission Director, JJM Tomo Basar informed that Arunachal Pradesh is the first state in the North East and 10th in the country to achieve 100 percent saturation of Har Ghar Jal under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
“The challenge now lies in sustaining the Jal Jeevan Mission for which VWSC, GPs and PRIs have to work in tandem,” Basar added.
He also stressed on the importance of the communities taking ownership and maintenance of the local water sources.
The Deputy Commissioner while congratulating the PHED department in achieving the feat, also administered the “Drinking water catchment area protection” pledge to all the attendees.
