Namsai, Mar 4: The fortnight-long Mass Awareness Programme culminated here in the District Library Namsai today. Namsai Deputy Commissioner C. R. Khampa, Satyanarayanan Mundayoor, Padmashri awardee and other host of dignitaries, 132 students along with their teachers from 8 different educational institutions of Namsai District participated in the program.
Deputy Commissioner CR Khampa inaugurated one New RFID (Radio frequency Identification) smart book shelf in the district library in presence of Satyanarayanan M and other dignitaries present in the valedictory program. The new device will enhance the efficiency of seamless borrowing process of books. Addressing the gathering, Khampa appealed to the students to take advantage of the fully automated library and enhance knowledge and skills to meet the future challenges.
Welcoming the gathering,librarian S. Mukherjee explained that the objective of the mass library awareness program was to inculcate much needed reading habits in students from early childhood. He also gave a brief synopsis of the 15-day long mass awareness programme where more than 1890 students, teachers, AWC workers, youths from every corner of the district especially from far-flung areas were arranged to visit the library and acquaint themselves about the services of the fully automated library and its further scope.
Everyday resource persons from different fields of their expertise which included educationists, senior bureaucrats, CDPOs and other prominent personalities were invited to the program to motivate the students.
While addressing the gathering Dr. Keshab Sharma, Namsai District Planning Officer stressed on the importance of physical book reading and role of the library in civil society and appealed the students not to become prey to modern digital devices.
Beautiful presentation by the volunteers of Bamboosa library, Tezu enthralled the audience. Around 2500 students participated in various literary events like essay competition, debate, extempore speech, drawing competitions organised in different educational institutions as part of the mass library awareness program by the District Library, Namsai.
