PASIGHAT, Jan 11: In a shocking incident of sexual assault and rape, one Mongol Gao of Mirsam village was arrested on Tuesday night by Pasighat Police following an FIR lodged by District Child Protection Officer, Pasighat, East Siang District on the same day.

According to the FIR, the concern designated officer received a complaint from a dedicated NGO (the NGO declined to give comment and preferred not to be named in the case) regarding the sexual assault of a minor girl aged about 6-7 years studying in Class-I. The FIR also reads that, the alleged accused has been raping and sexually assaulting the minor girl from last one year and the girl needed immediate removal and rescue from the house of the accused.

Meanwhile, concern I/O of the case, Sub-Inspector, M. Yanya informed that, the FIR was received on 9th last and alleged accused Gao was arrested from his house at around 10 PM on the same day vide Pasighat PS Case No. 03/18 U/S 371 IPC R/w Sec. 4/6 of POCSO Act. The accused has been sent to 14 days judicial remand from Wednesday.

As per Child Protection Officer, advocate Borik Tarang who recorded detailed statement of the victim girl, said that, the alleged accused has been raping the minor girl since last 4 months.

“The victim (from the Kachari community of Assam, presently residing at 4 Mile) had first informed the matter to Gao’s wife, but on her lack of action, the girl narrated the story to her mother who occasionally used to visit her at Gao’s home. But mother was also helpless as they were living on the plot of the perpetrator.

When the victim’s mother asked her daughter back, Gao demanded repayment of Rs. 10,000 which he had paid in advance. However, when the amount was managed, Gao again hiked the amount to Rs. 50,000,” narrated Tarang in detail.

However, the helpless mother’s story reached the NGO working on the subject and accordingly the girl was rescued and the alleged accused was also arrested.

Meanwhile, Adi Baane Kebang Women Wing East Siang President, Yalem Taga Burang and All Bogong Students’ Union President, Lungkang Ering have deeply condemned the incident and has demanded for stringent punishment against the alleged accused. The duo has also appealed the Addl. District & Session Court, Pasighat not to grant bail to the person.
