“It was a peaceful rally comprising of members of different communities residing in the Lekang circle just to remind the administration about our demand for PRC,’ informed an executive member of the union.

A memorandum has been submitted to the concern Deputy Commissioner a couple of months back but no communication has been received yet, he informs.

‘If the authority fails to respond, UPMOL may launch its own democratic movement in days to come,’ he said.

The Lekang circle is inhabited by several communities like Deori, Mishing, Moran Ahom and others. The demand for PRC has been a long one but it gained momentum during 2010.
