NIRJULI, Jan 24: Hundreds of students from NERIST under the banner of Students Union of NERIST (SUN)  along with AAPSU members participated in a rally to press their demand for permanent Director in the prestigious deemed university.

Addressing the gathering, President AAPSU Hawa Bagang opined that apex body will fully support the demand of Students Union of NERIST (SUN) for permanent director in the reputed institution. He also slammed the Ministry of Human Resource and Development for failing to appoint regular director in the institution despite repeated pleas.

‘ We personally met  MHRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and had apprised him about all the grievances of NERIST on couple of occasions and he had assured to fulfill the demands but till date no move has been made,’ claimed Bagang.

He further served a one month ultimatum to MHRD to appoint permanent Director failing which rigorous democratic movement will be launched.

Speaking to media, President SUN, Banta Natung also reiterated that they were assured for permanent Director by Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju  within a month  but till date no director has been appointed.

Since 2013, NERIST is running without Director due to which the glory of NERIST is taking a nosedive. Due to poor facilities and absence of Director many scholars have left the institute in the middle of their research and project, he said.

“We want permanent director that too from outside NERIST. A dynamic Director who would help the institute regain its past glory,” said Natung.

Meanwhile in a press conference, Vice President AAPSU (Admin) Mize Taku stressed that if government fails to appoint permanent director within a month, team AAPSU will be compelled to take stern democratic action in the form of lockdown of NERIST.
