ITANAGAR, Jun 8:A first year college student of Himalayan University, Itanagar identified as Joshua Ngupok sustained grievous injuries when Assam police allegedly thrashed him inside a police outpost at Shantipur, Tinsukia District, Assam on June 1 last.
Medical reports confirmed the victim is suffering from cervical lordosis and currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Dibrugarh, alleged North East Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) in a representation submitted to PS Sangmai, Superintendent of Police, Chapakhawa, Tinsukia seeking action against the police personnel.
In the representation, it alleged that the victim was forcibly brought to the Police outpost by some miscreants who first physically assaulted the boy without any provocation and injured him using machete at Assam-Arunachal boundary at Shantipur, Lower Dibang valley district.
Ngupok (19), a native of Kangkong village, Lower Dibang Valley, was on vacation and had gone for some urgent work to Shantipur Charali, Assam on the fateful day.
“We have request SP Chapakhawa to take all necessary action as per law and also to institute departmental action against the concerned police personnel for their misconduct and brutality. The act committed by police personnel was inhuman and a serious violation of human rights and we strongly condemn the act,” it added.-
