ITANAGAR, Aug 26:

Governor PB Acharya, Chairman, North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) has termed the North East Zone as the richest of all zones in India in terms of cultural heritage. ‘Every tribe or community has distinct and unique culture and traditions,’ he said while calling to maintain the spirit of unity in diversity.

 

He said this while attending the Programme Committee (PC) meeting of NEZCC at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar today which was attended by members from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura along with NEZCC officials.

 

 

 

While emphasising on home stay and home visitation for artists and cultural troupe members during any event organised by NEZCC, the Governor said that it is the foundation for emotional and national integration.

Expressing his concern on Shilpgram, the Governor exhorted the PC members to make the cultural centre of North East, more vibrant and popular. He advised them to explore innovative ways to increase the utility of the state-of-the-art facility.

Programme Committee Chairperson, Smt Ahola Those, IAS, Secretary, Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland, called upon the members to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage with innovation. She urged them to be realistic, specific and focus on the objective of the Zone Cultural Centre.  

The Chairperson also underscored the need for increasing the area of responsibilities of the NEZCC.

Earlier, welcoming the newly constituted Programme Committee for 2017-20, Director i/c and Member Secretary, NEZCC, D Vashum, requested the members to focus on quality programmes. ‘Let us strive to bring the people of North Eastern States closer to each other and also to the people of other parts of the country,’ he appealed.

The Programme Committee had an in-depth discussion on the programmes to be implemented by the Zonal Cultural Centre for the year 2017-18, which includes Discover North east, Painting Workshop, Spring Festival, Octave Festival, Shilpgram Weekend Programme, Shilpgram Utsav, Documentation of traditions and cultural heritage, Border Area programmes, Guru Shishya Parampara, Women skill Development Workshops, Theatre Rejuvenation, Swachh Bharat Mission, sculpture workshop, traditional tribal festivals of the North east and community learning programme.

The Committee also reviewed the achievements in the year 2016-17.

The committee decided to have border area programmes at two places in each State. It also decided that the interview for candidates for Guru Shishya Parampara will be conducted at respective States.

A five-member subcommittee, which includes PC members from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura was set up to make the Shilpgram Utsav more popular, while PC members from Assam agreed to shoulder responsibility to address the local issues of Shilpgram, Guwahati.

The Committee decided to have its next Programme Committee meeting at Aizawl, Mizoram on 30th January 2018.
