NAMSAI, Apr 8: In a disturbing turn of events ahead of the upcoming elections, NCP candidate for 47-Namsai constituency, Likha Saaya narrowly escaped unscathed after assailants targeted and vandalized his convoy in a chaotic incident at Piyong Circle, Namsai District, on Sunday evening.
Speaking to the media, Saaya revealed that a mob of hundreds of youths armed with lethal weapons descended upon his convoy, resulting in the destruction of at least 30 vehicles and injuries to numerous supporters. Blaming the BJP for orchestrating the violence, Saaya, who also holds the position of state president of NCP, condemned what he termed as "criminal intimidation" aimed at stifling the public's voice.
Providing further details, Saaya recounted that the NCP team had been engaged in a peaceful discussion with senior citizens of Piyong Circle when chaos erupted suddenly. Despite lodging multiple complaints and FIR  with the authorities, no action has been taken against the perpetrators, leaving the NCP feeling marginalized and vulnerable in their campaign efforts, stated Saaya.
Expressing the NCP's commitment to maintaining peaceful elections, Saaya emphasized the need for swift administrative intervention. He warned that failure to address the situation adequately would force the NCP to seek legal recourse.
Meanwhile, in a show of protest, Likha Saaya, accompanied by fellow NCP members, staged a sit-in outside the DC cum DEO office in Namsai demanding immediate action against the culprits responsible for the violence and against opposition leaders allegedly fomenting chaos in the region.
