Itanagar, Jan 25: Chief Secretary Dharmendra on Thursday said that “The credence and the credibility of a vibrant democracy depends on responsible and enlightened voters.”
The Chief Secretary was addressing a state level programme, held on the occasion of the 14th National Voter’s Day celebrations at Banquet Hall, Niti Vihar by the District Election Office, Papum Pare.
He urged the youths, which comprised of the majority of the audience, to cast their votes fearlessly without succumbing to intimidation or fear and express their political choices freely, contributing to a robust and a democratic electoral process.
“Voting is not just a right but a responsibility of all the eligible voters to exercise their adult franchise for building a strong base for a vibrant democracy,” the Chief Secretary added.
Stating that “a robust voter turnout is crucial for a healthy and democratic process,” he also called upon all the eligible voters to turn out for voting in huge numbers.
Impressed with the idea of spreading the message on voting rights, free and fair elections through music, dance and dramas, he congratulated the participants from various schools and colleges for their presentations.
State Icons appointed by the Election Commission, Tengam Celine Koyu, He/She Mari Game (Transgender Icon) and Thupten Tsering (PWD icon) also spoke on ethical and inclusive voting and urged all the youths to exercise their adult franchise without falling prey to allurements.
During the programme outstanding BLOS from the three assembly constituencies viz 13-Itanagar, 14-Doimukh and 15-Sagalee were felicitated with certificates and mementos. The prizes to winners of the senior and junior category essay writing and online quiz competitions for the school children, which was conducted under SVEEP were also distributed on the occasion. The CEO office also felicitated the three state icons.
The other highlights of the programme included performance by the students of Donyi Polo Mission Hearing and Visually Impaired School, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Itanagar and Zion Institute of Nursing.
Later the CS administered the Voter’s pledge to all the participants.
Principal Secretary Dr. Sharat Chauhan, DGP AnandMohan, CEO Pawan Kumar Sain, DEO Jiken Bomjen, and host of senior officers of the government of Arunachal Pradesh, HoOs of Papum Pare district, students of Zion Nursing College, Nirjuli, and Donyi Polo Mission School for hearing and visually impaired, BLOs attended the programme.
Along with the rest of the nation, the National Voters’ Day, with the theme ‘Nothing like voting, I vote for sure’, was observed at Governor Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Thursday. The officers and staff of Governor Secretariat participated in the celebration.
The Secretary to Governor, D Sharad Bhaskar administered the National Voters’ Day pledge to the officials, who pledged to uphold the democratic traditions of India and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections. He highlighted the importance of each vote in a democratic society and said that voting serves as a tribute to the essence of democracy, outlining the vital role played by voters in shaping the nation's destiny.
