DCM reviews hydropower projects to strengthen state energy roadmap
ITANAGAR, Dec 24:
Along with rest of the country, the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs has observed National Consumer Day statewide today with the theme “Emerging of Digital Market: Issue and Challenge in Consumer Protection”.
On this day of 24th December, 1986, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 which is a unique piece of legislation got assent from the President of India and the celebration is done to commemorate the day as well as to remind consumers of their rights and duties provided under the Act.
In HQ, the Department has observed the Day for three days from December 22-24. They have organized a training programme on consumer protection on the first day and set up an open forum for consumer consultation for last two days under the banner Consumer Care Centre (CCC) at the office premises of the Controller Legal Metrology & CA at C-Sector, Naharlagun. Numbers of consumers visited the Centre and got clarification on their confusions. Some of the aggrieved consumers who brought complaints of varied nature have been given guidance to resolve the issue with the seller in procedural manner or to approach the District Forum set up in every district HQ specifically for consumers.
In another publicity campaign, a vehicle with state of the art decoration carrying various information or tips on consumer protection was flagged off on 23rd morning by Hoktum Ori, Controller Legal Metrology & Consumer affairs at its office premises. The publicity vehicle passed through all the sector roads and other important locations in capital complex and distributed leaflets, booklets etc. Beside these programme, Deptt also carried out extensive publicity programme through print and electronic Media like Doordarshan and FM radio for the awareness of common consumers.
