ITANAGAR, Jul 4:Several organizations took out a massive candlelight march on Tuesday evening demanding justice for late Liyir Bagra, 15, who was found dead in mysterious condition in her friend’s house located at Guwahati on June 4 last.

The rally was headed by Galo Peoples Federation, wherein members from Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society, Galo Students Union, Galo Welfare Society along with other community based organizations, student groups and well-wishers actively participated.

Addressing the gathering, a relative of the aggrieved family, DFO, M Nyorak accused the concerned police department of Assam for shoddy investigation and demanded a comprehensive probe into the matter to bring out the truth.

“The police have clearly ignored all the circumstantial evidences like cut marks and bruises over the victim’s body, which clearly gives enough evidence that the victim struggled and fought before she died,” added Nyorak.

Citing foul play, Nyorak said that the body of late Bagra was found in the room of her friend’s elder brother, which was opposite to the room, where the victim was staying with his younger sister.

Suspecting involvement of other family members in the gruesome murder, Nyorak said that the ceiling fan of the room, where the host family claims late Bagra ended her life by hanging herself is too high for the deceased to tie a robe to commit suicide. ‘Most interesting thing is how could Liter possibly commit suicide that too in the room of her friend’s elder brother.

The dead body was not shown to the relatives by police and they were also not allowed to check the room where she was found dead, he said alleging that the host family is trying to hide the true facts and to make it as a case of suicide.

Strongly condemning the incident, President, Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare society President, Bengia Dipti said that the Assam police are not investigating the case in a proper way and demanded an unbiased probe to clear the conspiracy behind the death.

She also sought support from all Women Welfare groups in Assam in delivering justice to the Bagra family and stated that the Commission will soon write a complaint letter to the State Home Minister apprising him about the pressure tactics and conspiracies being used to subvert the investigation by Assam Police.

Meanwhile in his address, GPF, President, Nyadar Loya also condemned the Assam Police of failing to properly investigate the murder case and raised doubts on the involvement of the relatives of the host family in the whole incident.

Loya went on add that EAC cum magistrate of concern area, who is a close relative of the accused family, is protecting them and influencing the investigation.

He alleged that the police along with host family members had purportedly presumed the death of late Bagra to be a death by hanging, whereas injuries on the victim’s body clearly indicate that she was murdered.

Maintaining that the police and few influential people were trying to shield the accused family, Loya sought intervention of the State government to take its Assam counterpart into confidence and expedite the case.

“The victim family is still under trauma and the police have added more woes by displaying negligence on the case. After registering an FIR, the police should go by true facts,” Nyadar added.
