ITANAGAR, Sep 20:The Mere Vichar Andolan Committee (MVAC), which is seeking justice for the family of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Wednesday, announced a 12-hour capital bandh on September 25 next against the state government for failing to fulfill its long pending 3-point charter of demands.

The MVAC has been demanding a probe into the 60-paged note purportedly written by late Pul, resignation of chief minister Pema Khandu, DyCM, Chowna Mein and PD Sona on moral grounds, besides demanding Sona to return the Rs 4 crore, which he allegedly took from late Pul.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon at press club, Convener MVAC, Kaling Tasing accused the state government of not paying heed to the genuine points of demands put forward by the committee despite series of protest since last 8 months in the state capital and districts.

“The lackadaisical attitude of government towards our demands has compelled us to take this drastic step by calling a bandh call. The agitation would continue  until the Chief Minister steps down along with DCM on moral grounds from their respective post to pave way for free and fair inquiry into the corruption charges leveled against them in the 60 paged note— Mere Vichar purportedly written by Kalikho Pul,” Tasing added.

Clarifying that the committee has no personal grudge against the trio, Tasing described their movement as non-politically but a people’s movement. Tasing said that the incumbent CM, Khandu is not capable to run the government including the DCM, Chowna Mein and the people have lost confidence in them.

Further, Tasing demanded the Pul’s case be handed over to SIT under the active supervision of the Supreme Court or any independent inquiry committee, where there is less chance of the case being manipulated.

Speaking on the occasion, MVAC, Member, Likha Rajnik criticized junior Home Minister, Kiren Rijiju for deliberately delaying the Kalikho Pul case to save Chief Minister and DCM along with others whose names surfaced in “Mere Vichar”.

He alleged that the people have lost trust and faith on Rijiju, after he failed to stop the Supreme Court  from granting citizenship to refugees in the state and for the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy in the state while undermining the sentiments of the indigenous people.

Fearing that recommendation of SC would jeopardize the indigenous population  and also put at stake standing regulation like the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873, Rajnik while holding Rijiju responsible for the blunder has sought public apology and demanded him to tender resignation from the membership of parliament on moral grounds for deliberately failing to  fulfill the people’s expectation.

Strongly resenting the Centre’s move to grant citizenship to the Chakma refugees in the state, MVAC, Spokesperson, Tarh Atung described the SC decision as arbitrary and callous and termed it as indifference of the Centre towards the indigenous people of the state. He further urged all political leaders to fight against unitedly at this crucial moment to safeguard the right of tribal people.

Furthermore, the MVAC also sought cooperation of the public for peaceful conduct of the bandh to give justice to late people’s chief minister and his grieving family.

Ambulance and medical services, media vehicles, milk van, magistrate on duty and police will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
