ITANAGAR, Dec 22:

Soon after launching of the new mobile food testing laboratory, which is also called “Food Safety on wheels” on September 26 last, the mobile unit has collected many surveillance samples in the capital region and expected to cover Lower Subansiri, Lower Siang ,West Kameng , Lohit, Namsai etc in next few months.

This was informed by Nodal Officer, mobile food testing laboratory food safety unit, Directorate of health services in an official release on Friday.

 The laboratory mounted on a bus with a trained lab technician, driver and one MTS will be travelling across the state checking food samples on the spot.

Apart from conducting simple test from common adulterants in milk, edible oil and other items of food of daily consumption, it will also be used for awareness building around food safety, hygiene and promoting healthy eating habits.

In addition these mobile units would help the field functionaries in the state to enhance their outreach and conduct surveillance activities even in far flung areas, the release further said.

The effort is an initiative of food safety and standards authority of India (FSSAI) under Ministry of Health and Family welfare, government of India to educate people about nutrition and importance of safe food.
