UA Minister inspects burial ground, focuses on maintenance and improvement

SHILLONG, Jul 9:Arunachal Governor Brig (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd.) today highlighted the connectivity bottlenecks the state is facing and the huge task of implementing the Trans Arunachal Highway project and implementation of Arunachal Frontier Highway and East West Corridor.
Stating that Arunachal Pradesh is most strategically located in the country, having 1680 km International Border with three countries i.e. Bhutan (160 Km), China (1080 Km) and Myanmar (440 Km), the Governor said that the Border Area Development in the State is a necessity for security and to check thinning out of population.
“The nation has to invest in the border areas so that people of the State remain safe.”
He informed the plenary that Arunachal Pradesh Government has submitted a Border Area Development Programme (BADP) and it would need additional package under the programme. Moreover, he emphasized the need to strengthen the infrastructure at border check posts to promote inter-border trade with Myanmar, Bhutan and China.
The Governor also urged the NEC to explore the possibility of establishment of important educational institutions in Arunachal Pradesh in the same lines as IITs and IIMs as the state does not have any iconic institution it can boast of. He also urged the NEC to open a strategic policy research cell in Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, which can deal with border related issues across the North Eastern region on the same line of the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis set up by NEC in IIM Shillong. He has also requested for allotment of appropriate fund for one state-of-the -art Sainik School in the State, wherein students from across the States would dream to join.
Stating that Arunachal Pradesh has a great potential in sports and music and there is a need for avenues to channelize the youth energies in order to wean them away from drug and gun culture through sports and music, the Governor requested the NEC to provide funds for establishing five football institutes and five state-of-art Music Institutes in the State.
The Governor urged the NEC to take up major projects under North Eastern Region Community Resources Management Project (NERCORMP). He said that there is a need to accelerate the pace of socio-economic development of the Tirap, Changlang and Longding Districts for which the State Government has submitted a plan of Rs. 1524 crores to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Governor also expressed his concern over the insurgency activities in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and called for a concrete action plan to bring peace and development in the eastern part of the State.
