DAHUNG, Mar 19:Governor BD Mishra today chaired the opening session of a three-day National Conference on Buddhist Education at Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies (CIHCS), Dahung in West Kameng District.

The Governor in his inaugural speech said that by following the message and teachings of Lord Buddha, peace and progress for human beings can be achieved. He said that the teachings of Lord Buddha are as relevant today as these were 2500 years ago. The teachings of Lord Buddha seek the upliftment of the downtrodden, non-violence, freedom from superstition, education for all, knowledge and social amity, he said.

Highlighting the importance of Lord Buddha’s teachings, the Governor said that today the world faces many challenges such as terrorism, fundamentalist, violence, corruption, backwardness, poverty, superstitions, and parochial political situations.

Lord Buddha’s Four Noble truths, i.e. there is suffering, there is cause of suffering, there is cessation of suffering and there is a way to cessation of suffering, are ever relevant. Buddhists philosophy for the deliverance from the sufferings, he said, is enshrined in the eight paths, i.e. Right Faith, Right Resolve, Right Speech Right Action Right Living, Right Thought, Right concentration and Right Effort. These eight paths are applicable for modern societies as well, the governor opined.

Sharing his personal sentiment and experiences with Buddhism since his childhood, the Governor said that the teachings of Lord Buddha and his visits to Sarnath, Sri Lanka, Mount Kailash and HH Dalai Lama’s Vihara at Dharamshala have made a indelible impression on his mind and thoughts.

The Governor said that the quintessence of Buddhist philosophy resonates in the acclaimed policy of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, i.e.Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas.

First Lady of the State, Smt Neelam Misra, Speaker, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Er. Tenzin Norbu Thongdok, Local MLA Kumsi Sidisow, Abbot of Namgyal Monastery, Dharamshala His Eminence Thamthog Rinpoche, Prof. Madhumita Chattopadhyay, Jadavpur University, Kolkata were present on the occasion amongst others. Speaker, Local MLA Kumsi Sidisow and keynote speaker Prof. Chattopadhyay shared their views and ideas with the participants of the conference.

Earlier in his welcome address, Director CIMCS, Dahung, Geshe Ngawang Tashi Bapu briefed about the conference and Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies (CIHCS), Dahung.
