YINGKIONG, Sep 2:

 

Minister Agriculture, Fisheries etc, Wangki Lowang along with 17 progressive farmers from Tirap District had an hour-long foot march at Gampak, Komte, Modam, Nyamnyung & Koying Pomte WRC areas of Simong village recently. The minister RD & PR Alo Libang who hails from Simong village accompanied and guided the team during the visit.

 

Lowang was all praises for the people of Simong by seeing the WRC field which is the result of hard work put in by the forefathers who did the channel on self-help basis.

 

He said that his team of progressive farmers learned many things as to how to take up WRC and would try to introduce the same in Tirap District. He was optimistic to see better production utilizing the knowledge & skills gained from the education.

He assured to extend necessary support from the state government where people are doing better and are keen to take up agriculture in a big way for self-reliance. He observed that honey cultivation will also be suitable in the area & encouraged the locals to take up apiculture as honey has demand in the market.

 

Minister DRD & PR Alo Libang appealed the people to take up agriculture, horticulture & Tourism in a big way for sustainable income as the Govt. can’t afford to provide jobs & contract works to everyone. He appealed the people to stand united in every works for development. He discouraged the farmers using weed-cides in the field which is harmful to human body.

 

The Minister and the team visited the Paddy cum Fish culture field of few progressive farmers.
