NAMSAI, Aug 16:Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein visited the flood affected sites after taking part in the Independence Day celebrations at Lekang Circle on Tuesday.

During his visit to New Silatoo under Lekang circle which witnessed a devastating flood due to breach of river embankment last year, Mein observed that the innovative work of Sheet Pilling taken up by WRD department and spur construction along the river bank which was executed last year to plug the diversion point of Noa-Dihing river has successfully contained the emerging threat and considerably saved the nearby villages from inundation this year. Though the turbulent river water of Noa-Dihing has cave-in and damaged some portion of the Sheet Pilling, the adjoining villages were saved by the flood protection work, he observed.

Mein, on behalf of the people of Lekang Circle, thanked Chief Minister Pema Khandu for timely intervention and sanctioning of Rs 10 crore for flood protection and Rs 42 crore for Sheet Pilling works last year.

DCM also inspected the flood protection works at Deobeel and observed that many flood protection works are yet to be done to save and secure the nearby villages and Mahadevpur and Namsai town from the threat of flood waters.

It was informed to him that this year, many villages including Silatoo Kachari, Lekang Gohain Goan, Dirak Miri etc. have witnessed flood damages.

Mein assured to the people to take up flood protection measures on top priority and instructed the WRD department to restore the damaged portion immediately and to complete the remaining flood protection work on war footing.

Mein was accompanied by Executive Engineer (WRD), CJ Mannou and Panchayat & Public Leaders of the area.
