ITANAGAR, Mar 30:In the wake of Thursday’s thunderstorm in the capital as well in its adjoining region , Bharatiya Janata Party Vice President (State) Tame Phassang visited storm affected areas of Naharalgun and Itanagar today along with other BJP leaders. He also contributed cash amount from his own expenses as immediate relief to the affected families.
Massive thunderstorm that lashed Papumpare district and its adjoining areas caused immeasurable loss of both movable and immovable properties.
While interacting with the media, Phassang asserted that during his visit it was learnt that more than 2000 families have been affected in the thunderstorm.
‘I being the party Vice President and a denizen of 13th Itanagar Assembly constituency appeal the state government as well Chief Minister Pema Khandu to take immediate necessary measures for the affected people,’ he added.
Further, Phassang also requested the concern department to make proper assessment of properties lost in the heavy storm and disseminate required relief amounts.
Meanwhile, affected people also expressed gratitude to Phassang for his noble gesture and for visiting them in the hour of grief.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police Capital, Sagar Singh Khalsi informed this daily that no casualties were reported till evening.
There were some reports of road blockade due to trees that uprooted from the ground and damages to electric poles. However, all necessary measures has been already taken in collaboration with District administration, roads have been cleared for commuters and electricity that was disrupted last evening will be restored within short time, added the SP.
‘Heavy rains with thunderstorms hit some areas and small scale damages of properties like blowing away of CGI sheets roofing, felling of trees on electrical lines & on roads, damages of grocery items of shops etc have been reported, however no serious damages to lives and properties has reported so far. Power supply was disrupted and many areas remained in the dark whole night,’ informed Superintendent of Police, Papumpare District,T Amo.
The Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic, the lone government run technical institute of Itanagar has suffered major damages. The electric supply to the institute has been disrupted and multiple damages has been inflicted to infrastructure of the institute.
Several trees which were uprooted blocked the main road that leads to the campus. Also electric high tension wire fell down on the road. The roof of both girls and boys hostel were ripped apart by the wind. The hostels were flooded with rain water. This has forced students to leave the hostel and arrange temporary accommodation in their friends and relatives house. Also the main academic block has also suffered heavy damages. Almost all the windows of the building have broken and the glass wall at the main entrance is also completely damaged. Further the thunderstorm inflicted damage to faculty and staff quarters and temporary sheds
Meanwhile lecturer cum campus in-charge Joram Arun has appealed to the concern authorities to look into the matter and initiate relief measures at the earliest.
