BOLENG, Aug 1: In a devastating fire incident that swept through Pareng, a remote village in Arunachal Pradesh's Siang district, on Wednesday night, at least 24 houses were burnt and seven were partially damaged, according to official sources. While there were no human casualties reported but at least two individuals sustained injuries during the incident.
The fire is believed to have started from unattended meat roasting over an open fire, as per a wireless telegraphy message from Siang District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Obang Apum. The lack of fire stations in the newly established Siang district exacerbated the situation, highlighting the urgent need for better firefighting infrastructure in the area.
In response to the emergency, a fire brigade from neighboring Aalo quickly arrived at Pareng village under Boleng circle and successfully extinguished the blaze, the DDMO reported. Key officials, including Siang District Superintendent of Police Opir Paron, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tajing Jonnom, and District Medical Officer Dr. Tarik Talom, arrived at the scene that night to assess the situation and provided immediate relief to the affected villagers.
On Thursday, the DDMO, in collaboration with the Siang District Students' Union, distributed essential commodities to the fire victims. Community members also rallied together to support those affected by the disaster.
Meanwhile, local MLA and Minister Panchayati Raj Ojing Tasing has urged the administration as well as also assured to extend all the possible support to the victims as an immediate relief.
