ITANAGAR, Jun8:  In what can be termed as gross negligence on the part of the administration, a 75 year-old sustained serious injuries to his leg when a bomb dropped  by the Indian Air Force exploded a few meters away today at Rigio Village, Dollungmukh under Kamle District.

The injured has been identified as Bini Todum, a former Army man who along with few villagers were in their fields when the bomb was dropped and shrapnel hit him. He was immediately rushed to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, Naharlagun for medical aid.

‘Dropping of bomb by Indian Air Force is routine occurrence in the area since 1975 and locals are living in fear psychosis as the bombing zone is just few kilometres from the village,’ informed Vice President (Admin) All Kamle District Students Union, Bini Noga.

He further informed that recently on June 5 last in one such incident six mithuns were killed.

“The people of this village have no future if the government cannot stop the bombings or change the bombing zone, as such practice has been destroying standing crops, killing animals,” he said also citing air and noise pollution and high radiation.

“Importantly we are living in fear psychosis that someday a bomb might drop right in the middle of the village,” he added.

‘We have submitted repeated memorandums to MoS Home Kiren Rijiju, Chief Secretary and  very recently to the Union Minister of Defence  Nirmala  Sitharaman for her intervention on the issue during her visit to Itanagar on May 25 last but there has been no response,’ lamented Noga.

All Kamle District Students Union further urged the government to immediately shift the bombing zone before any untoward incident occurs and also to pay compensation to the villagers for their losses.

While narrating their grievances, a local informed this reporter that due to heavy bombing every week, villagers are unable to go to our fields for cultivation.

Locals are also facing problem in constructing homes as the powerful tremors cause cracks to appear on concrete walls.
