ITANAGAR, Nov 21:Parliamentary Secretary (Health & Family welfare), Phurpa Tsering today formally launched Vasectomy Fortnight by flagging-off a rally in presence of Special Secretary cum Mission Director (NHM) Dr. Tapasya Ragav, Director Family Welfare, Director Medical Education etc.
The students of State Nursing School and Aruno Daya School enthusiastically participated in the rally, which started from tennis court and culminated at RK Mission Hospital.
While launching the Vasectomy Fortnight, Tsering called upon all male members to adopt vasectomy and urged them to bear the burden with women to improve the reproductive health of couples for betterment of women’s health.
Director Family Welfare, Dr. K Lego said vasectomy is a non invasive minor surgical procedure which is considered as the most safest and effective birth control.
However, he disclosed that the acceptance level of male sterilization is very poor due to lack of awareness and stressed on popularizing vasectomy as a method for family planning to control population growth.
Reiterating small family is happy family, Lego said as responsible husband and father, men should adhere to the theme “Zimmedar parush ki yahi hai pechan, parivar niyojan jo de yogdaan”.
Underscoring the importance of vasectomy, senior Gynaecologist, Bombey Tayeng informed that male sterilization can be done in 15-30 minutes where pain is minimal and complication is rare under local anaesthesia and will not affect male hormones.
‘However female sterilization is more complicated, therefore the male member should come forward and take the responsibility to control family size for betterment of family,’ she opined.
