ZIRO, Feb 27: One day legal awareness programme was conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS) Ziro unit here today.
Besides legal rights on crime against women, awareness was given on the various provisions of NDPS Act, schemes for Skill Development, Career Orientation and female health & hygiene by the various resource persons.
Domo Padu, CJM cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority while addressing the gathering, mostly women, urged them to be their own advocate of empowerment and arm themselves with their legal rights as the definition of crime has diversified with the emergence of technology and social media.
With the rising cases of drug abuse in the district, he asked the students to be more vigilant and not succumb to peer pressure by following the wrong path.
Mabi Taipodia (APCS) Member Secretary Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women gave a detailed presentation on Crime Against Women highlighting issues on Sexual Harassment at Workplace and the absence of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in almost all the workplaces in the state both private and public.
She also highlighted the provisions of the Domestic violence Act 2005 and called upon implementation of CCS Act to put a check on polygamy among government officials.
She further stressed on the importance of sex education in schools and the reporting of crime in cases of sexual harassment to ensure justice to the victim.
