Itanagar, Aug 9: A legal aid clinic was inaugurated by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority at the APWWS Office, Naharlagun, to cater to the needs of people who cannot afford legal services. The clinic was inaugurated by Member Secretary APSLSA Yomge Ado and Nani Mamung, Circle Officer, Naharlagun.
The Member Secretary stated that the establishment of the legal aid clinic is under the NALSA schemes, aiming to make justice accessible to all so that no one is deprived of their legal rights. He appealed to the public to avail themselves of its services. Nani Mamung, Circle Officer, noted that such an institution, established for the welfare of the people, is a very good initiative. She emphasized that many people are unaware of it, and it is an excellent opportunity for them to learn about their legal rights.
APWWS President Kani Nada Maling highlighted the need for a legal aid clinic at the APWWS office, especially for women vendors who are often unaware of their legal rights. She mentioned that over the last year, APWWS has focused on imparting adult education to women vendors and found that they frequently face various problems but don’t know whom to approach. The establishment of the legal aid clinic at APWWS Office, Naharlagun will make it easier for them to address their issues and receive legal counseling. She thanked Member Secretary Yomge Ado for inaugurating the legal aid clinic and acknowledged the support extended by the All Arunachal Street Vendors and Hawkers Association, the active involvement of members of APWWS, and the staff of the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, all of which contributed to the success of today’s program. Additionally, she mentioned that APWWS receives many phone calls seeking legal guidance, so the clinic will cater to these needs.
Resource person Advocate Taying Nega spoke about the schemes under the National Legal Services Authority, the provision of free legal aid, and how the legal aid clinic can assist people. Advocate Oyam Binggep, Law Coordinator , APWWS, discussed how individuals could seek help through the legal aid clinic. Yomjum Geyi Jongsam, Chief Coordinator, and Tana Jaya Joram, Spokesperson of APWWS, also spoke on the occasion. The executive members of the All Arunachal Street Vendors and Hawkers Association and vendors from the Naharlagun and Itanagar markets also attended the programme. The programme was coordinated by Kasi Dai, Superintendent, APSLSA.
