ITANAGAR, Sep 4: In a sad development late Monday evening, Minister Health and Family Welfare, Jomde Kena passed away at Guwahati after prolonged illness.

His body will be brought to Naharlagun Helipad on Tuesday morning from Guwahati where it is likely to be kept for an hour to enable the public to pay their last respects before being flown to his native Gensi.

Jomde Kena, son of Late Gajom Kena was born in 1965 at Village Taramuri under Post Office Gensi in Lower Siang district. Kena, who represents 28th Likabali constituency of West Siang district, was first elected to the assembly in 2014. He was re-elected to the House from the same constituency in 2009 and also in 2014 with INC ticket.

He served as parliamentary secretary for IT, science & technology, tourism, Minister for Transport, Supply and Transport, Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs and also as the Deputy Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly under the Dorjee Khandu, Jarbom Gamlin  and Nabam Tuki ministries. 

 

CM Khandu, cabinet colleagues mourn Kena’s demise 

ITANAGAR: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed shock and grief over the sad demise of his Cabinet colleague Jomde Kena, who breathed his last this evening following prolonged illness.

Khandu, who is in the national capital for an official meeting, conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and the people, especially those of 28 Likabali Assembly constituency whom he represented in the Legislative Assembly.

In his condolence message, Khandu said, “Words cannot describe the pain you go through when you lose a dear friend, a colleague and a guide who was always around to support, advise and show the way ahead despite hard times. The sudden demise of Jomde Kena, who as a member of Team Arunachal had just started to bring reforms in the health department, is a bolt from nowhere.” 

“In his demise, our state has lost a seasoned politician and I have lost an elder brother, who was more than a friend,” Khandu said. 

“On behalf of the people, I convey my deep condolences to the members of his family, friends and well wishers. I pray for his soul to rest in eternal peace,” the message added.   

Deputy CM, Chowna Mein took to Facebook to express his grief.

 It is a very sad moment for the people of Arunachal Pradesh as we lose a very young, energetic and capable Cabinet Minister with the passing away of Shri Jomde Kena, Minister of Health & Family Welfare. He was a very good friend of mine and was very close to me. I am deeply saddened by his demise. I pray to Almighty God for his family and close relatives to bestow enough strength to them to cope with during this trying times. May His Soul Rest In Peace in Heavenly Abode!

State BJP President, Tapir Gao has also condoled the sad demise of Kena and has directed the party leaders and workers to gather at the Naharlagun Helipad by 9am to pay respects to the late leader.
