ITANAGAR, Jun 26:Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society in association with Donyi Polo Vidya Bhavan School organised a seminar to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the auditorium of Donyi Polo Vidya Bhavan School Itanagar today.

The programme organized with a theme “Listen First- listening to Youth and Children is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe” was attended by more than 300 students.

Dy. Director (IEC) APSACS Tashor Pali while highlighting the importance of the day said that the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations International Day againstdrug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It is an important occasion to reach out to the youth and create awareness about the menace of drug abuse to the young generations.

He highlighted some of the symptoms of drug abuse, which include bloodshot eyes, changes in appetite or sleep pattern, sudden weight loss or weight gain, deterioration of physical appearance and personal grooming habits, unexplained change in personality or attitude etc.      

Dy. Director (Blood Safety) Dr. Nabam Budh, while attending the programme as the resource person educated the students on the routes of HIV/AIDS transmission and its prevention. He also appealed people not to discriminate people living with HIV. He also highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donations to save needy patients.

Later an interactive session was organized where students raised importance questions on the issues.

At ANJAW

The Anjaw District Administration observed the day by organizing a sensitization campaign at Government higher secondary school, Hawai, wherein various teachers, HoDs, officials briefed the gathering about the importance of the day and the need for participation of all citizens in observance of such a day.

In her address, Deputy Commissioner, Anjaw, Mamata Riba called upon all stakeholders, PRIs, NGOs, Government servants and students to come together and resolve to work conscientiously to eradicate drugs and substance abuse for betterment of society.

Later teachers and students also participated in the open discussion on ways to make society drug-free. Participants suggested means and ways for dealing with drug menace.

At BASAR,

District Legal  Service Authority –West Siang organized  one day legal awareness camp cum free legal counselling on the occasion of  International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ today at Government Higher Secondary School  Basar.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman District Legal Service Authority cum Additional District and Session Judge Lobsang Tenzin dwelt on the provision of Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and benefits of services under legal service authority such as Lok Adalat, conciliation, legal aid clinic and others.

Beside, advocates and medical professionals at least 500 students from different schools of Basar attended the daylong program.
