ITANAGAR, Oct 12:As a part of the weeklong RTI celebrations, which concluded today, the Arunachal Pradesh State Information Commission today organized a one-day workshop to sensitize Engineers about the provisions of the Act.

The RTI week is being celebrated every year throughout the country under the aegis of Government of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, New Delhi with a view to “Improving Transparency and Accountability in Government through effective Implementation of RTI Act 2005”.

Altogether 31 Engineers of various works departments who are functioning as PIOs & APIOs participated in the workshop.

Earlier inaugurating the workshop on October 5 last, Information Commissioner, Nanom Jamoh described RTI as one of the most powerful weapons of information for the common citizens of the country which has been enacted by Parliament in its endeavour for transparent governance and public delivery system.

 Resource Persons AK Techi, Information Commissioner dwelt at length in regard to derelictions of Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs).

He pointed out that many of the PIOs & APIOs do not follow the RTI guidelines, resulting in failure in government policies etc.

‘The PIOs and APIOs represent a department or group of departments, hence one should meticulously equip with the provisions of RTI Act and no information seeker should be misguided,’ he stressed.

Thomas George Sr. Analyst cum Under Secretary, (AR) highlighted the salient features of RTI Act 2005 and the Arunachal Pradesh Right to Information Rules, 2005 and informed of the various amendments made to the RTI Act till date and advised the officers to update themselves for effective implementation of the Act.
