ITANAGAR, Mar 2: In the wake of an Indian student killed in Russian shelling in Ukraine, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Arunachal Pradesh unit  organized a dharna  at IG Park in the state capital alleging  that the Indian government ignored to evacuate Indian citizens from the war zone on time.
Speaking to the media, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Vice President, Toko Mina alleged that the death of Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, a 21-year-old medical student hailing from Karnataka, who was killed in Kharkiv was due to the carelessness of the central government.
"Along with other Indians, NSUI demands  the safe return of all Arunachal students from  Ukraine. Moreover, the state government must bear the entire transportation expenses of the Arunachalee students," she added.
Mina further said that neighbouring country Pakistan was prompt enough to plan a strategy, a month before to evacuate its citizens. However, the Indian government ignored it and as a consequence an innocent medical student lost his life, she said.
“Today, only students from India are stranded in Ukraine. It is also a result  of the impractical advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Ukraine in such a tense situation which led to the death of an innocent student,” she said, questioning the Indian government on its unreliable evacuation strategy. She also questioned the delayed response of sending four central ministers to war-torn Ukraine.
“The Prime Minister is not concerned about Indian students and citizens, rather he is busy in election campaigns in Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and other states. This clearly indicates the carelessness of the Modi government which is more concerned about the elections,” the APCC vice president said.
