NEW DELHI, Jan 20 (PTI): The Indian Army has sought assistance of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) to locate missing boy Miram Taron on their side and return him as per established protocol, sources in defence establishment said on Thursday.
Arunachal Pradesh's MP Tapir Gao said on Wednesday that PLA on Tuesday abducted a 17-year-old boy from inside the Indian territory in state's Upper Siang district.
Sources in defence establishment said on Thursday that when the Indian Army received the information about Taron, it immediately contacted the PLA through established mechanism of hotline informing that an individual, who was collecting herbs and hunting, has lost his way and cannot be found.
Assistance from PLA has been sought to locate the individual on their side and return him as per established protocol, sources noted.
Gao said on Wednesday that the incident took place near the place where Tsangpo river enters India in Arunachal Pradesh. Tsangpo is called as Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and Brahmaputra in Assam.
The MP also said that he has informed Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik about the incident and requested him to take necessary action in this regard.
In September 2020, the PLA had abducted five youths from Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Subansiri district and released them after about a week.
The latest incident came at a time when the Indian Army continues to be engaged in a stand-off with PLA in eastern Ladakh since April 2020.
There have been 14 round of military-level talks between India and China to resolve the standoff.
However, disengagement process is yet to be done in areas of Hot Springs, Depsang bulge and Demchok in eastern Ladakh.
Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
India shares a 3,400 km-long LAC with China from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.

Ering, AAPSU condemns abduction

 

ITANAGAR, Jan 20: Chief Minister Pema Khandu while reacting on the  abduction of Arunachalee youth by Chinese PLA, said the Ministry of Defence has been informed and it is taking up the issue on a diplomatic level. 
I am very optimistic that within few days the abducted youth will be released, he said.
Earlier, condemning the  repeated tactics by the PLA, former Union Minister and sitting Congress MLA Ninong Ering called for immediate release of the abducted youth.
" We don't know about any politics or diplomacy; Arunachal is an integral part of India and every Arunachalee are true Indians," said Ering while  appealing the Central Government and Defence Minister to take up the issue immediately for safe return of the youth.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has also vehemently condemned the incident. AAPSU President Hawa Bagang stated that the nefarious activities of the Chinese army across the border have not stop. Earlier such incident of abduction of five youths was in the news with their subsequent denial about it. AAPSU condemns the repeated incursion of the PLA in Arunachal Pradesh territory to create tension by their malicious intentions, Bagang said.
The union appealed to the Central Government to initiate appropriate action for the safe return of the Arunachalee youth.

China's Foreign Ministry says not aware of missing Arunachal youth

Beijing, Jan 20 (PTI): China's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that it was not aware of the incident in which the Chinese People's Liberation Army reportedly abducted a 17-year-old youth from Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Siang district but said the PLA controls the borders and cracks down on "illegal entry and exit activities."
Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh Tapir Gao said on Wednesday that a teenager, identified as Miram Taron, was abducted by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) from Lungta Jor area under Siyungla area on Tuesday. The youth was abducted from inside Indian territory in the state's Upper Siang district, Gao said.
Taron's friend Johny Yaiying, who managed to escape, informed the authorities about the kidnapping by the PLA, Gao told the media.
Asked for his reaction to the allegation of the PLA abducting Taron, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry here said, “I don't know the situation”.
"The Chinese People's Liberation Army controls borders in accordance with the law and cracks down on illegal entry and exit activities,” the spokesperson said.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry's response came even as the Indian Army has sought assistance from the PLA to locate the missing boy on their side and return him as per established protocol, sources in the defence establishment said in New Delhi on Thursday.
