Itanagar, Mar 10: In an attempt to support Mithun (Bos Frontalis) herders, the IIT Bhilai Innovation and Technology Foundation, initiated a transformative interaction meeting on Saturday at Balisori village. This event aimed to support the competence of Mithun herders, fostering a deeper understanding of the integration of technology in the buying and selling processes of Mithun, which holds immense cultural and economic significance as a symbol of pride and local identity in tribal trade.
The meeting was convened at resident of one of prominent farmer Mr. Jobe Buchi under the Chairmanship of Dr. Marpe Sora(PI) under the tribal area sub plan (TSP) scheme of IBITF. In the interaction programme chairman welcomed a diverse gathering, including committed Mithun farmers. The session delved into pressing issues faced by Mithun herders, accentuating the challenges arising from a small population and localized distribution, which has resulted in inadequate policy and institutional support. Despite Mithun's integral role in the social, cultural, and religious fabric of ethnic communities in the Northeast, it has unfortunately been overshadowed in policy discussions. The Mithun Herders' Interaction Programme initiated with an insightful introductory session, setting the stage for constructive discussions. The active participation of 30 farmers enriched the discourse, shedding light on concerns regarding insufficient policy and institutional support. The gathering emphasized the potential advantages of incorporating technology into Mithun transactions, with farmers foreseeing improved efficiency and fairness in trade practices, marking a pivotal step towards empowering Mithun herders in the region.
