NAMSAI, Jan 16: Following the recent clashes in Namsai, certain groups of individuals blocked the national highway for a few hours, expressing their frustration with the District Administration for not addressing their demands.
The protesters, who took to the streets, conveyed to the media that the Administration had failed to meet their requests, which included the arrest of individuals wielding lethal weapons that resulted in severe injuries to dozens of people.
However, after a few hours, the Namsai district administration reached the scene, engaged in negotiations, and assured the protesters that their demands would be addressed. Subsequently, the road was cleared.
Meanwhile, Chow Jaling Mannow, the Secretary-General of the Tai Khamti Singpho Council (TKSC), appealed to the public of Namsai to uphold peace and tranquillity. Mannow clarified that the clash was not a communal issue but rather an altercation involving two individuals. He emphasized that the police would handle the case by conducting a thorough investigation.
Mannow also shared that the TKSC would soon initiate a joint resolution to promote peaceful coexistence between the local Khamti and Adivasi communities residing in the Namsai district.
Earlier, DC Namsai CR Khampa informed that the administration is taking all measures to check further escalation and the police have been advised to execute a proper investigation in the case to arrest all the accused. He also added that more than 23 people were injured during the mob clash that occurred on January 14 last. Administration is taking care of all the medical expenses and other needs of the injured people, added the DC.
