AHMEDABAD, Apr 9 (PTI): Gujarat’s private bus operators are getting their buses registered at regional transport offices (RTO) in Arunachal Pradesh instead of Gujarat to save on taxes.
In the last year or so, at least 25 private operators have opened offices in Arunachal so they can register vehicles from there, according to office-bearers of Akhil Gujarat Tourist Vehicle Operators Federation (AGTVOF). About 1,000 interstate sleeper buses registered in Gujarat, have had their registration moved to Arunachal Pradesh RTOs in the past year.
Bus operators save around Rs 38,000 per month on taxes, as Arunachal Pradesh levies Rs 2,000 against the average of Rs 40,000 per month in Gujarat.
AGTVOF secretary Rajendra Thaker said, “The Centre introduced an all-India permit for inter-state buses last year, for which private AC bus operators must pay Rs 3 lakh per annum. If paid quarterly, it works out to Rs 3. 60 lakh. Over this, we need to pay home state tax. ” Gujarat private bus operators clear their dues in the RTO here, get an NOCand then get their buses registered in Arunachal. Operators save Rs 4. 50 lakh per bus every year by this.
