ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The Capital police released four members of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC) after nearly 24 hours of detention at the Itanagar police station. Sources claimed that the detention occurred following the PAJSC's declaration of a Black Day and boycott of the Statehood Day.
Among those detained were PAJSC Chairman Techi Puru, Vice Chairman Tadak Nalo, and four other members. However, Tadak Nalo and three others were released in the early hours on Wednesday.
Addressing the media upon his release, Nalo criticized the state government for what he termed as “toying with the emotions of thousands of aspirants.” He expressed dismay that while those deserving punishment were freely roaming, those fighting against the cash-for-job scam were being unfairly detained to suppress the truth.
Nalo further emphasized that their actions were merely an expression of frustration over the state government's lack of response to their 13-point demands, which led to the declaration of Black Day on February 20th. He vowed to continue the fight for justice until all 13-point demands were met.
Nalo further disclosed that Chairman Techu Puru and another individual remained in custody without valid reasons, urging the police and relevant authorities to release them immediately.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) has released a statement expressing concern over the arrest of the PAJSC members.
It's disheartening to see the arrest of PAJSC members. The observance of a black day by the PAJSC highlights the unmet charter of demands which the state government had given them in writing. As a mother organisation, it is heartbreaking to see our own children in such a situation; they are not anti- social elements. Building trust among young people is essential for a welfare government.
Addressing systemic corruption in recruitment processes is needed to ensure a fair and equitable job environment. It's disheartening to see the arrest of the members. It is crucial for the state government to reflect on its failure to fulfill commitments made to PAJSC, the Society said.
The systematic corruption in the recruitment process/job for cash is like a parasite which will damage the whole ecosystem. We appeal for their release and peaceful resolution of their long-pending fiasco, so that the aspirants can prepare for their examination. It is important to remember that they are representing thousands of aspirants whose life and career prospects have been totally crushed under the loopholes of the establishment, said President APWWS Kani Nada Maling.
