ITANAGAR, Jan 9: Governor BD Mishra on the second day of the cleanliness drive, under the theme, ‘Hamara Elan Swachhta aur Nari Utthan’ took part in ‘Safai Abhiyan’ near the Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) plant at Chimpu today.

Continuing the Swachhta Mission, the Governor accompanied by the Raj Bhavan team, members of Itanagar Municipal Council led by Chief Councillor Kipa Kaku, NGOs, Self Help Groups, student volunteers from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya and police personnel cleaned the entry point of the MSWM plant, which has been an eyesore to visitors and commuters coming to the State Capital via Hollongi Gate. 

During the drive, the Governor emphasised on a holistic plan for the disposal of the wastes and garbage, keeping in mind the solid waste dumping for next ten years.

‘Segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at the starting point of the waste management process, i.e. the ‘home-refuse’ is must. Temporary solution like use of Solid Waste for land filling etc. must be reviewed and solid waste disposal must find a permanent solution having scientific approach to the problem,’ the Governor pointed.

The next cleanliness drive day will be on January 11 next. The Swachhhta Abhiyan will be conducted in Akashdeep area of Itanagar.
