ITANAGAR, Jan 25:Governor BD Mishra today commended the Itanagar Municipal Council, councilors and NGOs for their enthusiastic participation in the cleanliness drives conducted under the theme ‘Hamara Elan Swachhta aur Nari Utthan’.
He said this during an interaction with the councilors and ward members of IMC at Raj Bhavan today. He also commended the NGOs and Self Help Groups, especially women involved in the drive.
In an effort for midterm correction in the 25 day cleanliness drive, the Governor invited innovative ideas and suggestions to further strengthen the much needed drive to keep the Capital City clean.
Sharing his experiences of the last few drives, the Governor remarked on few departments for not keeping their premises clean urging them to improve.
The Governor advised the members of Itanagar Municipal Council to involve the market association and create awareness amongst the shopkeepers.
He asked them to keep on trying for better standards in cleanliness for the city and this should become our second nature.
Putting forward their views, the councilors suggested that there must be penal provision for making the area dirty and proper enforcement of recovery of civic charges should be ensured. The committee also suggested that each family must pay separate civic charges, particularly those in rented houses. They also suggested issuance of notices to departments keeping their premises untidy.
In the morning, as part of the cleanliness drive, the Governor, along with Raj Bhavan staff cleaned areas of the Gandhi Market, Itanagar.
