ITANAGAR, Apr 13: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) and chief minister Pema Khandu have greeted the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Sangken.
In his message, the Governor said that the Sangken festival is the occasion when the images of Lord Buddha are given a ceremonious bath. This also heralds the New Year of Tai Khamti and Singpho communities. During the Sangken Festival people sprinkle water on each other in joy and merriment, he said.
On this blessed day, I offer my prayer to Lord Buddha to give each one of us his choicest blessings. May this festival of our Tai Khamti and Singpho brethren bind each one of us in fraternal love, goodwill and cooperation, the Governor said in his message.
Chief Minister Khandu has conveyed his greetings and best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, Bohag Bihu, Ambedkar Jayanti and Mahavir Jayanti that will be celebrated across the country on Thursday.
Wishing members of Sikh, Assamese, Bengali and Jain communities serving and residing in Arunachal Pradesh, Khandu expressed optimism that their respective festivals will further the bond of bonhomie and brotherhood with other communities of the state.
“These festivals are not only to celebrate for joy and fun but also to celebrate our unity for peace and progress of our state and the country. I personally join with you all in your celebrations,” he said in a message here this evening.
Paying rich tributes to Dr B R Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, Khandu said, “One of the most prominent social reformers of India, Ambedkar is known for his fight against the social evil of untouchability and the inequalities posed by the caste system of India.”
“We as Indians will always remain indebted to Ambedkar ji for his invaluable contribution to the Indian legal system and framing of the Constitution,” he added.
