ITANAGAR, July 29: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) along with the First Lady participated in a voluntary blood donation camp at Raj Bhavan today. The voluntary blood donation camp was organised on the initiative of the Governor as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Terming blood donors as life savers, he urged upon the people to come forward and donate blood voluntarily.
The Governor emphasised on creating mass awareness about blood donation and its importance. He said that there would be a large number of blood donation volunteers in the districts. It is, therefore, necessary that requisite equipment must be kept in place to collect and preserve the donated blood.
Mishra informed that he will be writing to all the Indian Army and ITBP units stationed in Arunachal Pradesh to respond positively to any call for blood donation in their area of deployment as ‘Operational Immediate Requirement’, so that no life is lost in remote areas due to lack of blood.  
He commended the blood collecting organizations, particularly the doctors, nursing officers, technical medical staff and the volunteers of Red Cross and Arunachal Life Saving foundation for participating in the humanitarian initiative of Raj Bhavan and conveyed his appreciation to every blood donor.
The Directorate of Health Service, Indian Red Cross Society, State Blood Transfusion Council, Arunachal Life Saving foundation and doctors and technical officials of Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS) and Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) contributed in organizing the Governor’s AKAM initiative. Large numbers of voluntary blood donors from 31 Battalion ITBP (Yupia), 33 Battalion ITBP (Raj Bhavan), 1st Arunachal Armed Police (AAP) Battalion, Dy SP probationers and personnel from Police Training Centre, Banderdewa, 12 Battalion of NDRF, Doimukh, 138 Battalion CRPF, Senki View, Itanagar, Capital Police, NSS volunteers from Biny Yanga Govt. Women College, Lekhi, Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic and Don Bosco College, Jollang, NCC Cadets from Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic and Raj Bhavan officers donated on the occasion. Coordinated by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Capital Complex, voluntary blood donors from Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society, Oju Welfare Association, Women HelpLine-181, officers and staff of government departments and Singcha Ghene Welfare Society also donated blood in the camp.
Dr. Jennifer Tayeng, Senior Medical Officer, Raj Bhavan Dispensary, informed that one hundred forty-one (141) units of blood were collected on the day. 302 volunteers turned up but many were not allowed by the Medical Counselling Board. The blood units have been sent to the blood banks of TRIHMS, Naharlagun and RKMH, Itanagar.
