15th RGU Convocation

ITANAGAR, Nov 30: Governor BD Mishra graced the 15th Convocation of Rajiv Gandhi University today.

The Governor congratulated the degree awardees and university toppers and was very pleased to note that girl students fared very well on merit.

Reminding the passing out students that society has contributed to their academic excellence, the Governor said that now it is their turn to pay back to society in whatever capacity.

The Governor, who is also the Chief Rector of RGU, said that RGU must be a centre for research for progress of the people and centre for inventions for development of nation. He also emphasised on creating conducive academic atmosphere in the university campus and suggested that Vice Chancellor and Deans must conduct two classes every week to share their wisdom, knowledge and experience with their students.

Earlier, the Governor gave away Ph.D Degrees to 39 candidates and M. Phil Degrees to 20 candidates.

Topper of the University in Post Graduate courses for the year 2016-17, Ms. Lakshipriya Gogoi, M. Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal and topper of University in Under Graduate courses for the year 2016-17, Shri Hemant Gamre, Bachelor in Physical Education received their medals from the Governor.

In his convocation address, Prof. Dr. Ramesh C Deka, former Director, AIIMS and Ex Vice Chancellor, Downtown University, Guwahati called upon the university to prepare the students to meet the requirement of inspirational leadership.

‘University, beside academics has a big role to play. It must be centre for developing new researches,’ he said while emphasising on preservation and sustaining the cultural heritage.

Prof. Deka gave away the gold medals to 23 toppers of Post Graduate courses for the year 2016-17.

Speaking on the occasion, Air Marshall (Retd.) Pranab Kumar Barbora, Chancellor, RGU advised the students to do their best so that India reaches to its rightful place in the world.

Earlier, the Chancellor gave away the gold medals to 23 toppers of Under Graduate courses for the year 2016-17.

In his welcome address, the RGU Vice Chancellor Prof. Tamo Mibang briefing on the university informed that there are 24 departments with Post graduate courses in 8 disciplines. He also informed that the university has adopted 5 villages and conducted 75 outreach programmes benefiting more than 10,000 persons.

Out of 6151 undergraduates and post graduates, 1003 candidates were conferred their degrees in person in the 15th Convocation of the University.
