AALO, Jul 16: The Nehru Yuva Kendra Office Building constructed by Water Resource Department under State Infrastructure Development Fund for Aalo East was inaugurated amidst much fanfare by Minister of Tax & Excise, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Jarkar Gamlin today.
Gamlin disclosed that funds have been made available under SIDF and the land located in the heart of the town was made available after the collapse of the old office building so that the office continues to serve as platform for the youths to carry out vital activities like dissemination of government policies and programmes, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, awareness against drug addiction and other nation-building activities.
The Minister expressed concern at growing drug menace in society and appealed to the administration, police, civil society and youths to come together to root out this evil from society saying that drug peddlers have to be nabbed first and given exemplary punishments.
He also asked the DC to look into the allotment case of the Kendra and urged youths to make best use of the office and play constructive and visible works for society.
In-charge Youth Coordinator, Olom Talom disclosed that the Kendra could not take up much activities for the last five years due to lack of a proper office building and assured to gear up activities now on from the new office as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
Gumsen Lollen, President, YCF and Marbi Doji, NYV also appealed to the Minister to move the Union Government for appointment of Olom Talom as the Youth Coordinator.
At present 80 youth clubs are registered, 137 youth clubs, 29 Mahila Mandals , 29 Sports Clubs affiliated and 193 villages/youth clubs were activated by the NYK.
