ITANAGAR, Sep 15:The Green Arunachal Foundation (GAF) on Saturday has strongly urged the State government to summon an emergent special session of the Assembly over the burning refugee issue and pass a resolution involving the opinions and sentiments of indigenous people to challenge the Supreme Court order.

Addressing a press conference, GAF, President, Takam Tatung strongly objected the granting of citizenship to refugees in the state and appealed all those in power not to indulge in blame-game but  work unitedly to safeguard the tribal rights.

Referring to a meeting held in 2012 under the chairmanship of the then Secretary (Political), Indira Mallo in which three representatives of Chakma community were also present, the former AAPSU president informed that during the meeting it was decided to confine the refugees in a designated area somewhere in Namsai with all basic facilities.

Tatung disclosed that the proposal was duly approved by the house and accepted by Santosh Chakma, Bimal Kanti Chakma and AC Hajong to act in accordance with the decision taken during the meeting.

‘However due to unfavourable circumstances that proposal remained in paper and was never implemented in reality,’ he added.

He suggested the government to look into the resolution adopted during the meeting also and opined that while the Supreme Court order cannot be turned down by any governing body, ‘our state government can at least confine the refugees in an area, where they cannot bring more trouble for the indigenous populace.’

Also condemning the state government for adopting Tibetan Rehabilitation policy, Tatung alleged that the policy was adopted at a time when state is facing severe employment problems and criticized the Pema led Government for spending crores of money for refugees while neglecting the

 development of other districts.

He also strongly opposed the proposed creation of 100 posts of teachers for teaching Bodhi language and urged to cancel all the benefits allowed to Tibetan refugees immediately including cancellation of those who were granted ST status illegally.

Blaming the Junior Home Minister for the blunder, Tatung said that Kiren Rijiju heading the Home Ministry should not let such things happen which is purely against the interests of indigenous tribes of the state.

Further extending full support to the bandh call of AAPSU, Tatung appealed to all former AAPSU leaders who are in the state cabinet to act wisely and draw concrete measures against the illogical decision of the Supreme Court.
