ZIRO, Aug 9:Freedom from open defecation week to commemorate the 71st Independence Day was launched today at Ziro, Lower Subansiri District with an awareness rally at Tajang and Kalung – Reru village.

While flagging off the rally, ZPM Hija, Dani Buker and ZPM Tajang, Millo Yama, univocally pledged to support the PHE department in achieving open defecation status of all the villages of Ziro byDecember 30 next.

EE, PHE & WS Division, Ziro, Er. Dani Lampung emphasized on construction of sanitary latrine by households who still use traditional ones. He further enlightened the gathering about help and benefits given by the government to those who shun traditional toilet and adopt sanitary toilet. PRI members, school children and staff numbering to about 500 took part in the rally.

Later in the evening, an announcement rath was flagged off by In-charge DC, Nending Chatung from the premises of DC office. The rath made public announcement about construction of sanitary latrine, open defecation free target as well as SBM (G) in general across Block-I Ziro. PHED Lower Subansiri targets to be open defecation free by December 30 next.

Host of other programmes is slated to be undertaken at Yachuli, Yazali, Raga, Boa Simla and Dollungmukh in the coming days to mark the freedom from open defecation week.

At TEZU,

A similar rally was flagged off by Department of Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Tezu at Jubilee Ground, Tezu, today.  Assistant Surveyor cum Assistant Engineer PHE&WS Sub Division Tezu, Tana Chiyi flagged off the programme which was attended by people from all walks of life.

The rally was conducted to commemorate the 71stIndependence Day celebration in the District ended with a colourful note with a vision to achieve Open Defecation Free in the District by the end of December next.
