ITANAGAR, Jul 6:Former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader, MLA Nabam Tuki today denied any move to join any political party especially the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He was reacting to a report in the Asian Age which appeared in the Friday edition. ‘This is a planted story and I have no idea. The said story has been created by the said individual (reporter) without identifying the facts and truth and without any discussion,’ he said adding that there is no iota of truth.

Tuki while clarifying his stand said, ‘I never held any meeting for joining any political party anywhere and have never ever tried to join any party. There is no point of joining the BJP.  I have not contacted anybody. Manoj Anand had earlier also written such news, he should have verified and contacted me before going ahead.’

Tuki said that the news published in the Asian Age is fabricated and an attempt to damage his image.

State BJP President Tapir Gao when contacted said that he had led the entire Cabinet delegation of Arunachal Pradesh to Imphal, Manipur recently where there was a discussion with regards to the forthcoming parliamentary elections in the state and country with the BJP President Amit Shah.

‘A discussion was held in regards to strengthening of the party and about former Ministers and former MLAs stand where it was observed that most of them are now with the Saffron party. During the session the stand of the former chief ministers also came up and the name of all former CMs which include Gegong Apang, a BJP member and PK Thungon, who is currently inactive and Nabam Tuki of the Congress was highlighted and there was nothing more to it ,’ Gao said.

Joining of former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was not discussed at all and we are totally in the dark, even the party high command cannot have such information without consultation of the state unit, he asserted.

Meanwhile Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee, General Secretary Tamchi Tahar while reacting to the news item said that without clarifying especially with the Congress, the reporter should not have published the news.

Meanwhile, the former CM has sent a clarification letter to the Editor of Asian Age, New Delhi on the matter.
