NAMSAI, Aug 10:Due to incessant rainfall since last few days low lying areas of entire Namsai district are submerged by flood waters. Noa-dihing river alongwith other rivers and its tributaries passing through the district are in rising trend and flowing just below the danger level.

Reports of massive soil erosion along with losses of private properties are being received from various pockets of the district. Around 200 hectares of cultivated land especially paddy field are submerged by flood waters. The actual loss can be ascertained only once the floods recede. Damage report to homes, granaries, cattle sheds are also pouring in.

Dirak Miri, Lekang Gohaingaon, Rajabeel, Mokrun and Nongtaw Khamti are the worst affected villages in the district. 756 people from 105 households under Lekang Circle have been severely affected due by entering of flood waters.  District Administration Namsai has directed all concerned agencies to keep close vigil and monitor the flood situation and to ensure all necessary precautionary measure to avert any untoward incident. Complete ban on fishing has been imposed. Necessary relief materials are being provided to the affected people by the District Administration, Namsai.

Meanwhile, people residing along river banks have been alerted. No loss of human life has been reported so far.
