PASIGHAT, Jul 18: Awareness camps on the effective implementation of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act will be held in all schools across East Siang district. The camps will be organised under the aegis of the District Child Protection Unit and Deputy Director, Integrated Child Development Scheme ( ICDS), Pasighat under the department of Women &Child Development (WCD).
In this connection, a workshop for masters trainers was held today wherein teachers, NGOs, members of Women Against Social Evils( WASE), supervisors, ICDS officials of Onestop Centre, Pasighat and advocates participated.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pasighat , Taddo Borang inaugurating the workshop, called for all efforts to protect children from all kinds of abuses and exploitation, including sexual abuse. He hoped that the training imparted on the provisions of POCSO Act will help the master trainers in creating awareness.
The District Child Protection Officer cum Deputy Director ICDS, PonungEring Angu has called for proactive cooperation by stakeholdersand dwelt on the role of police, NGOs, doctors, courts, parents ,
teachers. She also informed on the objective for enacting the POCSO Act by the Government of India to protect children under 18 years from offences of sexual abuse, sexual harassment etc including safeguarding the interest of the child at every stage of the judicial process by incorporating child friendly mechanisms, etc.
During the workshop, teams were also imparted training on how to reachout to children through songs and rhymes on the matters of theirrights and create awareness on child sexual abuse.
The Child Protection Officer informed that it is mandatory for everySchool to incorporate awareness on POCSO Act. A power point presentation on POCSO Act 2012 highlighted the salient features of the Act and rules and prevention of child sexual abuse.
Children can also avail various services on 1098 National Childline,ItanagarChildline9402788373 and POCSO e-box to report any offences committed.
Provisions of Juvenile Justice ( Care & Protection) Act 2015 was also highlighted by the officials.
