ITANAGAR, Feb 24: The East Kameng Police has busted an Inter-state supply chain of high-end stolen SUVs including the kingpins from the national capital region (NCR) and Arunachal Pradesh with the arrest of seven persons. 13 stolen vehicles have also been recovered out of which nine are linked to FIRs registered in Delhi NCR.
The matter came to light when police seized a vehicle (Scorpio) at Seppa, when the driver failed to produce a valid Registration Certificate. Subsequently, the man, one Pinto Veo appeared before OC Police Station Seppa with an FIR that one Dare Kagung fraudulently sold him the vehicle in September 2021 on payment of Rs. 6.70 lakhs.
During the course of investigation, chain of middlemen, dealers, suppliers with kingpins was revealed. So far, total seven persons have been arrested and 13 four-wheelers have been seized—fortuners(6), Innova(3), Creta (3) and Scorpio (1) from different locations of the state, the East Kameng Police said.
Based on the disclosure of accused Dare Kagung, one Gufran Ali who runs a tyre store in Niti Vihar, Itanagar was arrested. Gufran was part of a major organised gang of dealers of stolen vehicles in Arunachal Pradesh and associated with one Tame Tallang. During the course of investigation, one Passang Tamang was revealed to be the kingpin of the supply chain of stolen vehicles and was arrested from Aalo, West Siang.
Accused Tamang is the mastermind of the gang operating in Arunachal Pradesh and connected to Delhi. One Tenzing Tamang who made the fake Registration Certificate in his cyber cafe for the Scorpio vehicle of Pinto Vei was also arrested, Police said.
Seppa Police team started monitoring Delhi chain and got a major breakthrough when one Sahil Pahuja @ Sam was intercepted in Mission Chariali (Assam) along with a woman accompanying him while trying to deliver a Fortuner car. He is the main link of the chain to Delhi and involved in dealing of vehicles stolen from Delhi.
”There is racket active in Delhi NCR who first steal the vehicles from Delhi and then supply it to North Eastern States within a week after altering engine and chassis numbers. They bring the vehicle for delivery to Arunachal Pradesh using fake R/C and false registration number for crossing check gates and most of the time they are accompanied by a woman in the car so that passing through barriers is easier. These vehicles are coded as Hathi for Fortuner, Rani for Innova, Cat for Creta etc. in black market and sold at very low cost from Rs.5 lakhs to 10 lakhs. There is chain of dealers and middlemen in Arunachal Pradesh to sell such vehicles to likely buyers. The kingpins of this chain are always in touch with Delhi NCR racket and the middlemen buy the vehicles from the kingpins and sell it to buyers in their network with a commission,” said SP East Kameng, Rahul Gupta adding that buyers are liable to be prosecuted u/s 411 IPC (Dishonestly receiving stolen property) punishable with 3 years of imprisonment.
