Donggin Festival of Adi Bori Community was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour all over the state.
Attending the festival as the Chief Guest , Chief Engineer, Power, Annong Perme, who is also the President of the Society for Festivals of Adis, asked the people to uphold cultural identity. He also stressed on the role of young generations to carry forward the unique cultural identity of tribal society in today’s modern world.
Guest of Honour Tayi Taggu, Deputy Secretary, to the Govt of Arunachal in his address asked the tribal people to guard tradition and culture zealously. He also stressed on the daily use of local dialects to preserve our social ethos.
‘Our dialect is directly related to our culture and tradition. If we do not use our local dialect, it will result in loss of our culture,’ he said.
Minister, Power, Textile, Handloom & Industry, Tamiyo Taga while attending the programme as one of the dignitaries, asked people to maintain traditional rituals while celebrating festivals.
It should not be modernised too much that we lose the basic ethos of the festival itself, he said.
Senior member of Adi Bori society, Hanggung Yaying, in his address said that modification of any festival will end up polluting it. The originality should not be compromised for the sake of modernisation of the festival.
Advisor of the Donggin Festival Celebration Committee, Tashor Pali, in his speech said that culture and traditions that are displayed through our festivals are our actual identity.
One may follow any religion or faith, but our identity can be established only through our culture, he added.
President of Donggin Festival Celebration committee, Tabon Yao gave the welcome address.
Donggin is an agricultural festival of Adi Bori community celebrated for the well being of humankind.
Earlier Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour inaugurated the festival by sprinkling etting (rice powder) and Apong (Rice beer) on the Liih (a ritual altar). A gamut of folk dance presentation by the various Rasengs (Women Group) mark the day.
Trophies, Certificates and Cash Prizes Donggin of Volley Ball Tournament and Late Yaber Bodung Memorial Donggin Badminton tournament were distributed to the winners.
