ITANAGAR, Aug 19:

In a rare and record breaking surgery, a team of doctors of Rama Krishna Mission Hospital here, led by Senior Gynaecologist Dr Posting Bayang successfully removed fifty tumours from the uterus of a woman while preserving her uterus intact.

A native of Arunachal Pradesh, the woman in her early 30s was suffering from heavy and painful menstrual cycle for several years. Because of heavy menstrual blood loss, she was anaemic and took multiple blood transfusions before.

She consulted doctors in NEIGRIHMS Shillong and many other metropolitan cities but most of the doctors advised her to undergo Hysterectomy.

On investigations, she was found to have multiple tumours in her uterus known as Myomas, Bayang said. Since she was very young and unmarried, decision for difficult and risky uterus preserving surgery known as Myomectomy was taken just to preserve her future fertility.

“The operation was successfully done on August 15 which, lasted for about 3 hours. The patient has recovered well and discharged from the hospital too,” the doctor said.

Previously, the team also successfully removed about 17 and 24 tumours in two patients. Both are now mothers with no recurrence reported so far.

The patient and her family members extended gratefulness to the team of doctors for successfully performing the tedious and risky operation.
