ITANAGAR, Aug 17:The Centre on Thursday has set 1^st April, 2019 as the last date for acquiring the requisite minimum professional qualification of in-service untrained teachers at the elementary level in all states and Union Territories.

‘As per new notification issued by Ministry of Human Resources Development, if any teacher fails to acquire professional qualification on the given date then he/she would not be allowed to continue in-service beyond 1^st April, 2019 and procedure for dismissal shall be initiated against such teachers,’ Secretary Education, Bidol Tayeng informed in an official release .

The direction has come in the backdrop of recent Parliament passing amendments to the section 23(2) of RTI Act. The untrained teachers include all government teachers and private and government aided schools teachers of the state and UTs.

The registration of the unqualified teacher on NIOS portal has started on Thursday and will continue till September 15 next and teachers can access free instructions through the SWAYAM online portal arranged by NIOS, he added.

Tayeng further disclosed that accordingly the department has written to all DCs and DDSEs in the state to inform all 429 untrained teachers and another 4000 teachers in government aided and private schools to acquire the requisite minimum qualification.

The 1st term course will start from 3^rd October, 2017 and conclude on 18^th June 2018. The 2nd term will start on 25^th June 2018 and conclude on March 31 next year.

A nodal officer has been appointed to the state education department to oversee and monitor the progress. All untrained teachers are hereby advised to immediately go for registration, which will close on 15^th September 2017, the release added.
